Hi everyone. Happy almost spring!

It’s Laura back with Episode #12 in our series, “Working With A Nanny From A-Z”. In today’s episode, I discuss ten conversations you should have with your newly hired nanny during the first week of working with your family!

Why have these conversations the first week? Because, if these topics aren’t covered early in the working relationship, they can get weird and awkward.

A good example is “saliva sharing”….are you okay with your nanny sharing a spoon or fork with your child? Or kissing your child? Most parents are not and it can feel a bit awkward to bring it up. That’s why you should discuss it before it gets weird!

New to our “Working With A Nanny From A-Z” videos? In this series, I am going to walk you through the entire process of working with a nanny. From deciding if nanny care is right for your family all the way through how to find, interview, hire and work with a nanny. Basically, everything you need to know from A-Z about the nanny world!

In today’s episode, “The First Week: 10 Conversations You Need To Have – Working With A Nanny From A-Z”, I discuss topics that you should cover with your nanny during their first week on the job such as:

  • Food in your home. What can the nanny eat or not eat?
  • Cell phone use. What’s okay and not okay?
  • Meal and rest breaks. How will your nanny handle taking breaks during the day?
  • Inclement weather policy. What happens if there is a snowstorm or flooding?

Hi everyone and happy Tuesday! With the COVID pandemic picking up speed again (boo!), I’ve been receiving lots of questions about what to do if you, your family, or your nanny might have been exposed to COVID.

In this video, I cover four different possible scenarios and how to handle canceling care, paying your nanny, and when to resume child care for each scenario. I hope you find it useful!

Hi everyone!

I’m excited (and honestly, a bit nervous) to release my first video blog post, “Six Questions To Ask A Nanny Before Inviting Into Your COVID Bubble”!

Over the last couple of years, I’ve been writing and publishing blog articles to help parents and care providers learn more about the different aspects of in-home child care.

Most of the blog posts I have posted take a solid 10-20 minutes to read. If your days are like mine, you may not have that kind of time to sit down to read a blog article.

My hope in switching my written blog to a video blog is to make this information more easily accessible and enjoyable to digest 🙂

I can’t think of one person who is sad to see 2020 go. It’s been a trying year for us all. Thankfully, a new year brings a fresh start!  Here is a message of hope from a member of the Nanny Parent Connection community “Nanny Melissa” aka, Melissa the Princess Nanny – reminding you all we will get through this together.

It’s the most wonderful time of year again! Then again, with everything 2020 brought, saying that it’s the most wonderful time of this particular year isn’t a big stretch. Last year was a really rough year for many, many people. To top it all off, most of us had a very different holiday season.

My family of four (including our puppy, Princess Buttercup) spent the time quietly at home, away from our loved ones, which we view as just one more sacrifice that we are more than willing to make to get to better times again. That doesn’t necessarily make it easier, though.

In 2019, I was a busy full-time nanny and homeschooling Mom to a kindergartener. I was cosplaying as a hobby and form of therapy to help me work through my anxiety and PTSD, which led to me performing at kid’s birthday parties as Disney princesses on the weekends. In short, I was busy and it was a promising year!

Balancing Work and Parenting

I know I certainly didn’t!

It’s been difficult to manage it all to say the least. The pandemic has upended nearly every aspect of our normal routines, and perhaps the most difficult thing of all is that none of us know how long we should plan on doing this new normal.

On June 9, 2020, Governor Inslee released operational and safety guidelines for how nannies, sitters and in-home child care providers can begin providing services to parents and families again.

Unfortunately, many of these guidelines are extremely difficult for a family and care provider to implement and could have a negative impact on the relationship between the provider and children in their care.

The Nanny Parent Connection team has carefully reviewed the operational guidelines published by Governor Inslee and has created this informational resource on how care providers and families can interpret these guidelines. Please make sure to read the important legal disclaimer at the end of the document.

Like many parents across the country, the husband and I have begun discussing how bringing our nanny back into our home is going to work.

In Washington, Governor Inslee has announced that Phase 2 of the reopening is tentatively scheduled for June 1. This is the the phase where all in-home/domestic services can resume. Essentially, nannies and sitters are allowed to begin working with non-essential employee parents beginning June 1…..subject to change like all things COVID-19 related.

Our children and I miss our nanny so much! We are all excited to see her smiling face and our children are excited to restart some of the special activities/traditions that they have created with her (if you haven’t seen Wonky Donkey, check it out here).

It goes without saying, the hubby and I are excited because we sorely need a break!

The question that we have been wrestling with is how do we safely bring our nanny back into our home and protect her, her family and our family from being infected with COVID-19?
