Fall is upon us. We are seeing sweater weather happening, we are seeing kids back in school and in general, one thing that everybody who works with a nanny should know about the fall is that it’s also National Nanny Recognition Week!
You may not know it, but every September, National Nanny Recognition Week happens. You didn’t know that was a thing? It is absolutely a thing. There are websites, nannies all know about it, and if you want to impress your nanny and show them that you care and that you appreciate all the hard work they do for your family, you can surprise them September 19th through September 25th with little gifts of recognition or just acknowledgments of thank yous and just give them a little love that week.
It will go a long way to help show your nanny that you care and to help build a very strong working relationship with your nanny.
So, what are some of the things that you can do to show your nanny that you appreciate them?
First off, nannies love anything made by nanny kids.
This could be some artwork, this could be a picture frame with a picture of the nanny and nanny kids inside the picture frame, maybe the picture frame has some artwork on it, maybe it’s a handprint Christmas ornament, or just a painting, or maybe even a card that they have drawn on or painted on that you write a little note of appreciation inside.
It could be as simple as that. Nannies always love gifts made by their nanny kids.
Another great idea to show your nanny that you appreciate them is a gift card.
You could give them a gift card for a massage, you could give them a gift card to a salon for a manicure-pedicure, their favorite store, their favorite restaurant, anything like that. That’s going to go a long way to show that you care and that you’re thinking about them and that you appreciate them.
You could also surprise them with flowers.
A lot of nannies appreciate flowers. It’s a wonderful way to show your nanny that you appreciate them, that you care and that you’re just giving them a little extra recognition. You could also surprise your nanny with a paid day off and say ”hey, we appreciate you, we want to make sure that you’re doing all the good self-care so we just want to give you an extra paid day off”. You could add that in or around the holidays or just whenever, maybe on the nanny’s birthday, something like that.
It’s a little something that you might be able to do that will go a long way to show appreciation for your nanny.
As mentioned before, but worth repeating, there is simply a card of appreciation. Maybe it’s a card that your kids make artwork on and you just add a little note of appreciation. It’s like a little card just to know that you appreciate them will go a long way for letting your nanny know that “hey, this family cares about me and they value and are recognizing the hard work that I do for them”.
You could also surprise your nanny with a gift basket. Maybe including some artwork in there, maybe including some favorite treats or some little chocolates if they like chocolates or a gift card may be inside the gift basket. Anything like that, and your nanny would feel very appreciated if they got a gift basket full of their favorite little things.
Now, this next one is a favorite because this is something that parents don’t think about all the time and it’s on every single nanny’s radar if they are using their car to drive nanny kids around on the job, and it’s car detailing!
Do you allow your kids to eat in your car? A lot of parents say they will never do that, but then end up giving their kids all the snacks to keep them busy during long road trips, and the car just gets annihilated with little crumbs and things like that. So it would be awesome to surprise your nanny with car detailing or even consider doing that maybe twice a year, for example, if your nanny is doing a fair amount of driving on the job!
Finally, the last suggestion is good old cash. That never disappoints!
Just a little something slipped inside a card if you don’t know what to do or maybe didn’t have time to plan. You can always add a little extra cash to their paycheck perhaps or just hand it to them.
Any little thing like that will also be very appreciated by your nanny. Just a little something extra to show that you care about them, you were thinking about them and the hard work they’re always doing for your family and showing that you care.

Make sure you have this on your radar. National Nanny Recognition Week is happening this year from September 19th through the 25th. You can appreciate them all the time but this special week is set aside to show your nannies that you care and you are appreciating them all of the time and it’s a little something that you can do to make sure that they know you value them.
It will go a long way to help build a stronger working relationship with your nanny, and chances are you will surprise them if you give them a little note or something of appreciation that week.
We hope you got some good tips on ways you can appreciate your nanny. While we know our nannies are appreciated all the time, this special week in September, September 19th through 25th, is set aside to show even a little extra appreciation.
